Dorin Recean addresses threats to citizens amid election fears

Prime Minister Dorin Recean addressed citizens this evening following reports that several individuals across the country have received threats via telephone calls.

According to Recean, the Republic of Moldova is currently facing an extreme attack. People from all corners of the nation are receiving anonymous death threats through these calls. Journalists, well-known figures, and ordinary citizens have been contacted and threatened with death.

"These acts of intimidation have one purpose: to instil panic and fear so that people are afraid to go out and vote. I assure you, state institutions will maintain order and protect citizens. We will remain united and resilient. Moldova is just; we will vote with confidence."

It has been reported that today several citizens informed law enforcement that they received emails or phone messages urging them to vote for a specific electoral candidate in exchange for a sum of money. After responding to these calls, they are notified by an automated system that they will receive 1,500 lei if they vote for the same candidate.

The police have announced that they registered thousands of cases in just one hour and have already identified the numbers and countries from which these calls originate.
