Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon lead to over 50 casualties
Over 50 people have died following Israeli airstrikes launched in Lebanon on Friday night—attacks that were not preceded by any evacuation warning, according to AFP.
The Lebanese Ministry of Health has reported 52 deaths and 72 injuries, based on an updated toll of Israeli enemy strikes in the Baalbek-Hermel region.
On Friday, Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati accused Israel of refusing to engage in any ceasefire with the Iranian-backed Shiite group Hezbollah, following a series of new airstrikes on the southern outskirts of Beirut—the first such strikes since the beginning of the week targeting this stronghold of the Islamist movement.
The conflict that began on October 7, 2023, in Palestinian territory has expanded into Lebanon, where Israel launched a campaign of massive airstrikes on September 23, primarily targeting Hezbollah strongholds on the southern outskirts of the capital, as well as in the south and east of the country, as reported by Agerpres.
According to an AFP tally based on official data, at least 1,829 people have been killed in Lebanon since September.
