The Republic of Moldova is ready to send aid to Turkey. 55 rescuers, ready to support the search efforts

The Republic of Moldova decided to send a team specialized in Urban Search and Rescue from the IGSU, to Turkey, the country heavily affected by the 7.8 earthquake that occurred on Monday morning, IGSU announces. Thus, 55 rescuers, with 12 fully autonomous intervention vehicles and two search dogs are ready to support the search efforts for the victims of the earthquake.

The IGSU specifies that according to the European disaster intervention mechanism, the Republic of Moldova is currently on hold. "As of this morning, the IGSU has conveyed the readiness for intervention in Turkey to the European Union Emergency Response Coordination Center and the Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Center to support the Government of Turkey in search missions - rescuing the victims of the earthquake this morning. The team's participation was approved by the president of the Extraordinary Situations Commission of the Republic of Moldova and they will arrive in the area affected by the earthquake, by air," states IGSU. According to the quoted source, the Republic of Moldova requested the EU and NATO to provide a plane to transport the rescue team and the necessary equipment to the scene of the disaster. The IGSU states that, following the earthquake with a magnitude of 7.9 on the Richter scale that hit the center of Turkey and northwestern Syria, the Republic of Moldova received the official request of the Government of Turkey and submitted the aid offer to the European Union and NATO mechanisms responsible in coordinating disaster relief. "Once the request for help from the Republic of Moldova will be accepted and a plane will be identified for transport, the rescue team will fly to the scene of the disaster," states IGSU. According to the quoted source, the Moldovan search-rescue team is to activate for at least seven days in the affected area in Turkey.
