Radu Albot defies age, eyes tennis glory
Moldovan tennis star Radu Albot, despite nearing his 35th birthday, shows no signs of slowing down. Inspired by tennis legends like Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, Albot remains committed to competing at the highest level.
In a recent interview on Moldova 1’s Arena Sportivă, Albot expressed his unwavering commitment to the sport: “I haven’t considered retirement at all. I’m playing well, and my level is consistently high. As long as my health permits, I’ll continue to play. The enjoyment I derive from the sport keeps me going.”
Albot reflected on the 2023 season, acknowledging that it could have been even more successful. He highlighted his participation in two Grand Slam main draws—Wimbledon and the US Open—where he faced off against tennis greats like Novak Djokovic. However, an illness forced him to end his season early.
“While I’ve had better seasons, this one was cut short due to illness. I'm awaiting medical advice to determine if I can continue playing, but it seems unlikely. The highlight of this year was qualifying for two Grand Slam main draws. In the past, this was a regular occurrence. Now, I'm often forced to battle through qualifying rounds,” Albot explained.
The seasoned athlete plans to resume training in Florida in December, gearing up for the upcoming Australian Open. Currently ranked 144th in the world, Albot remains optimistic about his future in tennis.
