Kirkorov's Moldova entry ban upheld
The Russian singer Filip Kirkorov has been barred from entering Moldova. The Chisinau Court of Appeals upheld a 2022 decision by the Border Police, rejecting Kirkorov's appeal.
The ban is linked to the artist's public support for Russia's invasion of Ukraine and his planned concert in Moldova. This decision aligns with similar bans imposed by other Baltic and Eastern European countries.
Kirkorov had challenged the 2022 decision by the Border Police to deny him entry on the grounds of not meeting the necessary border crossing requirements. In May 2024, the Chisinau Court overturned the ban, deeming the Border Police's decision unjustified. However, the General Inspectorate of Border Police appealed the ruling, and the Court of Appeals has now reinstated the original decision.
The 2022 ban was imposed in the context of a planned concert by Kirkorov in Moldova, which was subsequently cancelled. Additionally, the artist's public support for Russia's aggression against Ukraine has sparked controversy and may have contributed to the imposition of the ban.
Kirkorov is also subject to entry bans in Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, and Ukraine.
