Champions League shocker: Sporting stuns City
Sporting Lisbon delivered a shock 4-1 victory over Manchester City at the José Alvalade Stadium in Lisbon. Meanwhile, Real Madrid suffered a disappointing 1-3 home defeat against AC Milan.
Sporting Lisbon, currently dominating the Portuguese league, produced a stunning performance against the English champions. Despite conceding an early goal to Phil Foden, the Portuguese side fought back, with Swedish striker Victor Gyokeres equalising in the 38th minute. Gyokeres, who had recently scored four goals in a domestic league match, was instrumental in Sporting's victory.
The second half saw Sporting take control of the game. Uruguayan midfielder Maximiliano Araujo gave the hosts a 2-1 lead, followed by a Gyokeres penalty to extend the advantage. Erling Haaland missed a penalty for Manchester City, and Gyokeres completed his hat-trick to seal the impressive win.
In another surprising result, Real Madrid were defeated by AC Milan. Malick Thiaw gave Milan the lead, and although Vinicius Junior equalised from the penalty spot, Alvaro Morata restored Milan's advantage before halftime. Tijani Reijnders added a third goal for the Italian side in the second half.
FC Liverpool enjoyed a convincing 4-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen, with Luis Diaz scoring a hat-trick and Cody Gakpo also finding the net. Borussia Dortmund narrowly defeated Sturm Graz 1-0, while PSV Eindhoven secured a 4-0 win against Girona.
