Maia Sandu at the Budapest Summit: Moldova needs support to strengthen its Institutions and democracy
Today, 47 heads of state and government are participating in the fifth edition of the European Political Community Summit in Budapest. The agenda focuses on the security challenges facing Europe, particularly the situation in Ukraine. During the roundtable discussions, leaders will address specific topics of common interest, such as migration and economic security. The head of state Maia Sandu is participating in.
"I am here to discuss with European leaders the situation in the Republic of Moldova and to emphasize that we need more support to strengthen our institutions, enabling them to better protect Moldovan democracy. We want Moldovans to make decisions for Moldova, not Russian money. Furthermore, Moldova's European path is not only vital for us but also for the stability and security of the European continent," said Maia Sandu.
During the summit, a Political Declaration on a New European Pact for Competitiveness will be adopted. This declaration will guide the activities of European institutions, highlighting the urgency for the European Union to act decisively in addressing current challenges.
The European Political Community was established at the initiative of French President Emmanuel Macron and serves as a platform for political dialogue on peace and security in Europe, as well as for cooperation among the states of the European Union and those outside the community.
The inaugural summit of the Community took place in Prague in October 2022, and the second edition was hosted by Moldova in June 2023.
