Minister of Justice discusses legislative measures to combat electoral bribery
Minister of Justice Veronica Mihailov-Moraru, emphasized the need for decisive legislative measures to boost the fight against electoral bribery. She highlighted the importance of examining cases of electoral bribery in consecutive meetings without delay, revising the examination process for requests, and imposing discipline on the involved parties. This approach aims to prioritize the handling of corruption cases.
During an interview in the show "La 360 de grade" on Radio Moldova, Mihailov-Moraru stated, "In the coming days, we will analyze these measures in detail. We cannot simply implement changes; they must be thoroughly analyzed and substantiated to ensure efficient examination of cases while protecting public interests and the rights of the parties involved in defense."
She acknowledged that investigating corruption cases related to criminal groups is complex and requires significant time and effort. “To achieve a verdict with meaningful results, we must gather qualitative evidence that can withstand challenges against its validity. Unfortunately, cases involving election fraud have been processed very slowly in court. While we have seen some outcomes, they are regrettably not sufficient," said Mihailov-Moraru.
Additionally, we remind you that President Maia Sandu convened the Supreme Security Council (CSS) this morning to discuss political bribery and explore solutions to expedite combating measures. In this context, the president said that the authorities would present concrete plans within ten days to address this pressing issue.
