The situation in Gagauz autonomy, discussed by Maia Sandu with Recep Erdogan at the UN Conference on Climate Change
President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu met with Turkish President Recep Erdogan during the UN Conference on Climate Change (COP29) in Baku, Azerbaijan,. The discussions focused on regional peace and stability, as well as the situation in Gagauzia.
In her remarks shared on the X platform, Maia Sandu stated, "With President Erdogan, I discussed peace and stability, as well as Gagauzia, which serves as a bridge between our countries. Together, we aim to preserve the Gagauz language, recognized by UNESCO as endangered, and to protect Gagauz culture, which is an important part of Moldova's identity."

President Sandu is attending COP29, which runs from November 11 to 22, alongside a delegation from the Ministry of Energy, led by Minister Victor Parlicov. During her visit, she also held several meetings with officials and politicians from various countries, including a meeting with the president of Kazakhstan.
