North Korea sends 10,000 soldiers to aid Russia in Ukraine war
North Korea has deployed over 10,000 soldiers to support Russian forces in their war against Ukraine.
This report was confirmed by Vedant Patel, Deputy Spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State. According to Patel, most North Korean soldiers have already been deployed to the Kursk region, where they are participating in military operations alongside Russian forces, as reported by DW.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky previously stated that North Korean soldiers have already suffered casualties in battles in the Kursk region, where over 10,000 North Korean troops are currently stationed.
According to the British publication The Telegraph, Russian President Vladimir Putin intends to regain control of the entire Kursk region, which is partially occupied by Ukrainian forces, by the time Donald Trump is inaugurated as U.S. President in January 2025. This step would strengthen Moscow’s stance in potential peace negotiations.
Recently, North Korea and Russia ratified a comprehensive strategic partnership agreement that includes mutual military support. Assessments from South Korea and the United States estimate that between 8,000 and 12,000 North Korean soldiers have already been deployed to Russia, strengthening a joint force of approximately 50,000 troops in the Kursk region.
