European Union - Republic of Moldova Association Council convenes in Brussels

The seventh meeting of the EU-Moldova Association Council starts on Tuesday, 7 February in Brussels. For the first time this year, our country will attend the event as a candidate country for accession to the European Union.

The meeting of the EU-Republic of Moldova Association Council will be chaired by the head of the Moldovan Government, Natalia Gavrilița, and the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, Vice-President of the European Commission, reads a press release issued by the Government.

Besides the topics on the bilateral agenda, the Association Council meeting is also expected to exchange views on regional challenges, including the impact of Russia's aggression against Ukraine, and the resolution of the Transnistrian conflict is on the agenda.

Ahead of the meeting, the Moldovan government delegation led by Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița had several meetings with senior officials of European institutions, who reconfirmed Moldova's closeness to the European Union.

The President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, reaffirmed the message that Moldova has its place in the EU.

The President of the European Commission, Ursula Von de Leyen, stated that the Republic of Moldova can count on the EU's support.

The EU, said the senior EU official, is preparing financial support worth €145 million for the Republic of Moldova for economic development and energy security.

Moldova's delegation to the Association Council consists of Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Nicu Popescu, Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Oleg Serebrian, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Andrei Spînu, Minister of Economy Dumitru Alaiba, Minister of Justice Sergiu Litvinenco, Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Vladimir Bolea and State Secretary in the State Chancellery Adrian Băluțel.
