Moldova tightens eco-design rules for appliances

Only home appliances that meet stringent eco-design requirements will be permitted for import. These standards will apply to 21 types of equipment, including light sources, refrigerators, heating appliances, and boilers.

The Government has approved new technical standards for household appliances. The introduced requirements aim to optimise energy consumption, enhance product durability, and provide clear information to consumers, empowering them to select energy-efficient and environmentally friendly equipment.

The primary objective of this project is to contribute to reducing energy consumption in the household sector. It has been developed with the support of the European Union, through the "Addressing the Impact of the Energy Crisis in the Republic of Moldova" program, implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
