A Russian citizen, who allegedly trained activists from the Republic of Moldova, was detained in Bosnia and Herzegovina
A Russian citizen, Alexander Bezrukovni, has been detained in Bosnia and Herzegovina on suspicion of being an instructor who illegally trained pro-Russian activists from Moldova, the media in Bosnia and Herzegovina announced today.
The Interior Ministry of the Una-Sana Canton stated that Bezrukovni was arrested during an operation coordinated with the Intelligence and Security Agency (OSA), which had been monitoring his movements. The "Dnevni avaz" portal reported that his name appeared on an Interpol warrant and that he was captured just as he was preparing to flee the country.
The police have forwarded all relevant information about Bezrukovni to the Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the court has taken over the investigation.
Previously, the Police of the Republic of Moldova reported that over 300 young people from Moldova had received training in camps located in the Russian Federation, as well as in guerrilla camps in Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. This training aimed to incite mass destabilization and disorder around the presidential elections and the constitutional referendum concerning Moldova's potential membership in the European Union on October 20.
Reactions within Bosnia and Herzegovina regarding the training of Moldovan activists have been mixed. Minister of Security Nenad Nesic denied the existence of such activities in the country, while Minister of Foreign Affairs Elmedin Konakovic confirmed the reports of these exercises led by Russian instructors and promised a thorough investigation.
Following this, the media, citing sources from security agencies, reported that at least seven Russian individuals were identified as training Moldovans in the Banja Luka area earlier this year.
