Russia targets Ukraine’s critical energy in latest missile strike

Last night, the Russians carried out a coordinated attack on nearly all regions of Ukraine, using Shahed drones, cruise missiles, ballistic missiles, and aero-ballistic missiles, including "Zirkon," "Iskander," and "Kinjal."

A total of approximately 120 missiles and 90 drones were launched, with Ukrainian air defence forces destroying more than 140 aerial targets, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Sunday.

"The enemy targeted our energy infrastructure across Ukraine. Unfortunately, facilities were damaged by strikes and falling debris. In Mykolaiv, following a drone attack, two people were killed, and six others were injured, including two children. I extend my condolences to the families and friends of those who lost their lives. All relevant services are involved in managing the aftermath of the attacks," Zelensky wrote on social media.

The Air Forces of Ukraine's Armed Forces reported that the attack included a Zircon hypersonic missile launched from a ship, eight Kinjal aero-ballistic missiles, 101 Kh-101 and Kalibr cruise missiles, one Iskander-M ballistic missile, as well as four other Kh-22/Kh-31P cruise missiles and five Kh-59/Kh-69 air-launched missiles.

"There is information about the destruction of 144 aerial targets—102 missiles and 42 UAVs," the Air Forces reported, specifying that one Zircon hypersonic missile, seven of the eight Kinjals, 89 cruise missiles, and five drones were intercepted.

Moscow confirmed Sunday’s attack, claiming it targeted "critical energy infrastructure facilities" in Ukraine. "All planned targets were hit," stated the Russian Ministry of Defense.

"Once again, Russian terrorists aim to intimidate us with cold and darkness, repeating their actions in an attempt to succeed. The whole world witnesses that we are defending against absolute evil, which recognizes no language but the language of power. We need unity; the world needs unity. Only together can we stop this evil," Zelensky added, commenting on images captured after the massive Russian attack.
