Natalia Gavrilița, in Brussels: "European integration is a priority for the citizens of the Republic of Moldova"
Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița and the President of the European Council, Charles Michel discussed in Brussels on capitalising on the status of a candidate country for EU accession and the level of implementation of the reform agenda necessary in the process of initiating negotiations were.
A press release issued by the Government states that the two officials talked, during the meeting, about challenges and crises faced by the authorities of the Republic of Moldova in the last year, also addressing the regional aspects that could slow down our country's efforts to join the EU.
The Moldovan MP expressed her gratitude for the support that the Republic of Moldova is receiving from European institutions and EU member states, including the support in granting the status of a candidate country. In addition, she thanked the president of the European Council for his personal involvement in promoting Moldova’s interests and strengthening its institutional capacities.
"The Republic of Moldova is facing the elements of a hybrid war, with hundreds of cyber attacks recorded last year. Other threats Chisinau faces are propaganda and disinformation, border security and illegal migration," stated the head of the Executive.
Another topic of discussion focused on relations with Ukraine and support for the neighbouring country, including the provision of humanitarian aid. The president of the European Council, according to the source, appreciated the will of the Republic of Moldova for European integration and the good cooperation with Ukraine. Charles Michel underlined that, despite the country's limited resources, the openness and solidarity of the Republic of Moldova towards Ukraine and its citizens is considerable.
In addition, the officials exchanged opinions on the organisation of the meeting of the European Political Community in the Republic of Moldova, the agenda of the event and the level of its readiness.
