Mihai Popșoi: EU support key to Moldova’s European path

Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi discussed, in Brussels, the ways the European Union (EU) can support the citizens of the Republic of Moldova and the necessary measures to counteract the Russian Federation's interference, at the informal meeting of EU foreign ministers dedicated to Moldova.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mihai Popșoi outlined the significant challenges our country faced during the presidential elections and presented a vision for combating the malign influence of criminal groups backed by Russia, who seek to divert Moldova from its European course. In this context, the Deputy Prime Minister highlighted the importance of EU support in strengthening the resilience of state institutions, continuing the reform agenda, fighting corruption, and ensuring sustainable economic growth for the benefit of the citizens.

Additionally, the head of Moldova's diplomacy emphasised the importance of advancing the EU accession process, with the goal of completing the screening and launching direct negotiations, starting with Cluster I: Fundamental Values.

“The political and financial support of the European Union is crucial to maintaining Moldova's European path and improving the well-being of its people. At the same time, we are grateful for the bilateral support provided by EU member states, which further reaffirms that our country has trustworthy friends it can always rely on,” stated the Deputy Prime Minister.

It should be noted that Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi is on a working visit to Brussels, Belgium, on Monday, November 18. The minister is attending a meeting with the foreign ministers of EU member states, held on the margins of the Foreign Affairs Council. Mihai Popșoi is participating in the event at the invitation of Romania’s Foreign Minister Luminița Odobescu and Lithuania’s Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis, where he has several meetings scheduled.
