Moldova to discuss alternative gas routes with Gazprom

The delivery of Russian natural gas to the Republic of Moldova, specifically to the Transnistrian region, through an alternative route in case Ukraine halts the transit starting January 1, 2025, is one of the topics that Energy Minister Victor Parlicov is expected to discuss with Gazprom representatives, Prime Minister Dorin Recean stated during a Radio Moldova broadcast.

Additionally, Parlicov is expected to present Gazprom with the management changes at "Moldovagaz."

Recean mentioned that if Gazprom does not approve the composition of Moldovagaz, the Government has multiple scenarios in mind. However, he reassured that citizens will be provided with energy resources during the winter, and there are no grounds for reducing natural gas tariffs.

"The importance of delivering natural gas to the left bank of the Nistru lies in the fact that this gas is used to generate electricity for the right bank," the Prime Minister explained. "Several scenarios could occur where either the natural gas infrastructure in Ukraine is affected or transit is no longer allowed. There are also alternative routes through which this gas can reach the left bank of the Nistru, that is, the Republic of Moldova, and this is a topic that Minister Parlicov must discuss with Gazprom representatives."

It should be noted that Energy Minister Victor Parlicov has received an invitation from Gazprom for discussions in St. Petersburg. The official stated on Wednesday, following the Government meeting, that the matter is delicate, and the visit will be coordinated with the Prime Minister to determine Moldova's position in these discussions.
