Moldova secures €4.34M grant for waste management upgrades
The Republic of Moldova will receive a €4.34 million grant to modernise solid waste management infrastructure in several regions of the country. The project was approved in its first parliamentary reading by 69 deputies.
Of this amount, €2.25 million will be allocated to closing the landfill in Cahul. A new landfill, sorting station, and composting facility will be designed and built in its place.
Furthermore, €820,000 from the grant will be used to close landfills in Cahul, Cantemir, Taraclia, Vulcănești, Ceadîr-Lunga, and Comrat.
Approximately €17 million in investments are required to modernise waste management infrastructure across these regions.
The grant agreement awaits ratification by Parliament in its second reading.
The grant agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), signed on September 17, 2024, also awaits ratification by Parliament in its second reading. Previously, the Republic of Moldova signed a loan agreement with the EBRD for a €25 million credit to implement the "Solid Waste Management in Moldova" project in various parts of the country.
