Bernadette Szőcs makes history at Japan’s Champions Tournament
Bernadette Szőcs has reached the semifinals of the Champions Tournament in Japan, securing at least a bronze medal. In the quarterfinals, Szőcs, ranked 17th globally, faced Satsuki Odo of Japan, who is ranked 8th worldwide.
The Romanian player dominated the match, winning all three sets decisively, with scores of 14–12, 11–3, and 11–5. Szőcs made history as the first non-Asian player to advance to the semifinals of the Champions Tournament.
Tomorrow, Bernadette Szőcs will compete against Manyu Wang of China, ranked second in the world, in the semifinals. The other semifinal will see Wang Yidi and Chen Xingtong, both representing China, face off. Each semifinalist will earn a performance bonus of $25,500 USD. The finalist will receive $33,000 USD, while the champion will secure $40,000 USD.
