EU's 1.8 billion euro aid package to boost Moldova’s energy infrastructure

The economic growth package proposed by the European Commission will most likely be allocated to the construction of energy infrastructure, particularly electricity and gas networks, stated Siegfried Mureșan for Moldova 1.

According to the Romanian MEP, the Republic of Moldova enjoys substantial support in Brussels, especially since the future head of the European Union’s foreign policy will be Kaja Kallas, the former Estonian Prime Minister who has demonstrated a firm stance towards Russia.

The new von der Leyen cabinet has successfully passed the hearings in the specialised committees, and next week the commissioners will face the crucial test—the vote in the European Parliament plenary.

"Former Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas, who has firmly supported Ukraine since the outset of Russia’s illegal invasion, is from Estonia, the country that has contributed the most to Ukraine relative to its own economy. Therefore, she will continue to support Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova. She understands the threat posed by the Russian Federation and will be a staunch advocate for Moldova. This is excellent news for the Republic of Moldova," said Romanian MEP Siegfried Mureșan.

The European Parliament will vote on the 1.8 billion euro growth package in the first half of next year. The MEP responsible for its adoption is Siegfried Mureșan.

"The European Union has promised and proposed the largest economic aid package ever to the Republic of Moldova. The authorities in Chișinău will design the growth plan and determine where the funds will be allocated. However, I believe the funds will be directed in the following ways: primarily towards large-scale energy infrastructure projects, especially the construction of electricity and gas networks," Siegfried Mureșan stated.
