Famous artist in Romania, Gabriel Cotabiță, dies at 69
Romanian artist Gabriel Cotabiță died at the age of 69. The tragic news was made by the singer's conductor Ionel Tudor on his Facebook page. According to the media from Romania, the artist was admitted to the University Hospital in Bucharest and was in a coma.
"You left, Gabi, and you left Romanian pop music without one of the greatest and most personal voices! We were not only collaborators, but also friends from our youth! We released songs together that have delighted generations of listeners („Noapte albastră”, „Te rog, domnișoară, nu pleca”, „Și va mai trece-o noapte”, „Viața e un cazino”, „Să nu ne spunem adio”, „Poate ca da, poate ca nu” etc)! Together with Joey de Alvaré, we released the first CD in Romania! We did beautiful things together, things that cannot be forgotten! We shared many moments of our lives and careers together!…We will always keep you in our hearts! May God rest you in peace and light!”, wrote Romanian maestro Ionel Tudor on his Facebook page.
Gabriel Cotabiță, who was born on November 1, 1955, in Craiova, was a pop and pop-rock singer, presenter, music and television producer. He was also the lead singer of the band VH2 and was a member of the well-known rock group Holograf in the 1980s. Together with Holograf, he released the album "Holograf 1" in 1984. Gabriel Cotabiță starred in the musical film "În fiecare zi mi-e dor de tine", by Gheorghe Vitanidis, with music by George Grigoriu and Ionel Tudor. He also appears on the soundtrack of the film "Rezervă la start", by Anghel Mora, with music by Adrian Enescu.
Throughout his career, Gabriel Cotabiță has released several albums, including "Formații rock 5" (with the band Redivivus, a collective album), "Holograf 1" (with the band Holograf), "Noapte albastră", "Noi răminem oameni", "Prima iubire și ultima", "În fiecare zi mi-e dor de tine" (with Marina Florea), "Prizonier", "Viața e un cazino", "Greatest Hits" (with the band VH2), "Dacă n-ai iubi" (with the band VH2), "Fărâme de tandrețe", "2" (with the band VH2) and "25 de ani de nopti albastre - Best of Gabriel Cotabiță".
On May 8, 2015, Gabriel Cotabiță suffered a cardio-respiratory arrest at a gym. He then wore an automatic defibrillator to prevent cardiac disorders. He was married twice and had three daughters.
