Moldovan table grape exports to the EU have doubled this year. Alaiba: "We have achieved an incredible performance"
In the first 10 months of 2024, the Republic of Moldova achieved a record level of table grape exports to the European Union, which doubled compared to the same period last year. According to Dumitru Alaiba, the Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization, the value of these exports reached 627 million lei, reflecting a 1.9-fold increase from the previous year.
"This progress showcases not only the quality of Moldovan grapes but also the extraordinary efforts of our farmers, along with the government's initiatives to access new markets," Alaiba wrote in a Facebook post.
Furthermore, grape exports to the EU have dramatically increased, from 36% in 2021 to 74% in 2024, with Romania and Poland emerging as the primary trading partners.
Conversely, exports to the Russian Federation have seen a significant decline, with the market share dropped from 48% in 2021 to just 6% in 2024.
“These figures demonstrate that our products can compete in even the most demanding markets worldwide. Indeed, we have achieved an impressive milestone as a country by almost entirely reorienting our exports to the West, where our products are recognized and valued accordingly,” Alaiba added.
We remind you that Moldovan grape exporters can access the EU market without tariff or quantitative restrictions. In May of this year, the European Council extended the trade liberalization agreement between the European Union and the Republic of Moldova for another year.
