Moldovan winemakers won 90 medals at the “Vinul Moldovei” national contest

Moldovan winemakers won a total of 90 medals at the third edition of the national contest “Vinul Moldovei” (‘Wine of Moldova’) held on November 21 and 22 in Chisinau. Among the awarded wines, 8 received the Grand Gold Medal, 73 wines were awarded Gold Medals, and 9 received Silver Medals.

The medals were presented during the Awards Gala, which took place last night. The jury, composed of 27 local and international experts from seven countries, evaluated over 300 wines made from local varieties such as Feteasca Albă, Rara Neagră, and Viorica, as well as blends with European grapes, showcasing the diversity of Moldovan wines.

“The ‘Wine of Moldova’ Competition is more than just a contest; it serves as a forum for excellence. Wines that achieve the highest scores earn Silver, Gold, and Grand Gold Medals, signifying their high quality. This competition gathers 27 internationally recognized experts who taste a wide range of wines produced from local and selected varieties,” said Ștefan Iamandi, the director of the National Office of Vine and Wine.

“We support the organization of such events because they bring renowned wine experts to the Republic of Moldova, who taste our locally produced wines. The fact that this competition is successfully held for the third consecutive year shows a growing interest in Moldovan wine, which is very encouraging,” said Andrian Digolean, State Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry.

The evaluation process categorized the wines into distinct categories, including still wines, sparkling wines, and spirits, with each sample assessed by specialized committees. All winning wines will be featured in a specialized publication.
