Second round of Romania presidential elections crucial for Moldova’s future
Igor Grosu, the President of the Parliament of Chișinău, expresses pride in the fact that many Moldovans with Romanian citizenship voted in Romania’s presidential elections.
According to Grosu, "This shows that they care about the future of both Romania and the Republic of Moldova."
"I am proud that so many Moldovan Romanians came out to vote – over 80,000 citizens from our country expressed their political opinion, nearly double the turnout from the first round of the 2019 presidential elections. I am pleased that over 80% of them voted for pro-democratic and pro-European candidates, while the far-right garnered a negligible share of the vote. This shows that Moldovan Romanians care about the democratic and prosperous future of both Romania and the Republic of Moldova," Igor Grosu noted on his Facebook page.
Grosu also urges Moldovans with Romanian citizenship to vote in the second round of Romania's presidential elections: "In the second round of Romania’s presidential elections, the fate of both Romania and the Republic of Moldova will be decided. A prosperous Romania, a member of the EU and NATO, is absolutely essential for the European development of the Republic of Moldova. The choice in Romania’s presidential elections is clearer than ever."
It is worth mentioning that, for three days, a record number of Moldovans with Romanian citizenship participated in the elections. According to real-time data, by 9:00 PM, around 81,000 people had voted at the 59 polling stations open in the Republic of Moldova. Voters from our country are among the most active in the diaspora.
In the second round of the presidential elections, independent candidate Călin Georgescu will face off against Elena Lasconi (USR). Social Democrat Marcel Ciolacu ranked third in the first round of the presidential elections, while liberal Nicolae Ciucă placed fifth, receiving less than 9 percent, according to the final results of the Permanent Electoral Authority (AEP).
The second round of Romania’s presidential elections will take place on December 8, with voting in the diaspora taking place on December 6, 7, and 8.
