Romanian court to decide on presidential election recount
The Constitutional Court (CCR) decided on Friday, during its session, that it will announce its decision on Monday, December 2, regarding the challenges to annul the first round of the presidential elections, once it receives the results of the vote recount.
The Court was expected to decide on the validation of the first round of voting; however, in an unprecedented move, it ruled that all valid and invalid votes must be recounted.
It should be noted that today, the CCR was set to resume discussions on the request to annul the results of the first round of the presidential elections, submitted by Cristian Terheș, a candidate for president from the Romanian National Conservative Party.
Simultaneously, USR (Save Romania Union) filed a challenge at the Bucharest Court of Appeal against the Central Electoral Bureau's (BEC) decision to recount the votes cast in the presidential elections. USR is requesting that the Court of Appeal shorten procedural deadlines so that both the submitted challenge and any potential appeal are resolved before December 6, when, according to the current schedule, voting abroad for the second round of the presidential elections is set to commence.
