Progress of the Republic of Moldova in reforms implementation, discussed in Brussels. Gherasimov: We have advanced in multiple areas
The eighth meeting of the Moldova-European Union Association Committee is taking place today in Brussels. The event provides an important platform for dialogue to assess the progress made by the country in areas such as the economy, security, and energy, as well as the necessary adjustments in all negotiation chapters. The Republic of Moldova is advancing on two essential fronts, said the Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration, Cristina Gherasimov.
*„Right now, we are on two parallel paths. One pertains to the Association Agreement and the other directly to the negotiation process. The reforms are the same. We report and discuss the same reforms that we are implementing, only on two different platforms. We discuss political dialogue, developments in the economy, security, and energy. We review all the reference and interest areas for us as a country, which represent our roadmap for accession. They align very closely with the same topics addressed at home on another platform, which is the preparation for negotiations," said Cristina Gherasimov, Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration.
The meeting provides an opportunity for an exchange of views between representatives of several institutions from Chișinău and experts from the European Commission, to better understand where the Republic of Moldova stands and how prepared it is for joining the European Union.
*“The progress we have made over the past year has been evaluated very well, very positively by our colleagues from the European Commission. We have made significant progress in multiple areas that we have discussed previously, but if we are to talk about the overall level of preparation of the Republic of Moldova, we still have a lot of work to do. In all areas, we are somewhere at an initial stage, at a general preparation stage for accession," Cristina Gherasimov said.
The Republic of Moldova - European Union Association Committee is an institutional platform created based on the Association Agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union. Its role is to monitor the implementation of the Agreement, evaluate the progress made, and coordinate reforms and dialogue between the two parties in various fields such as economy, energy, justice, and security.
