Unity in diversity: Moldova’s intercultural gala

Representatives of various ethnicities in our country took the stage today.

The first edition of the Gala of Ethnic Communities took place at the Palace of the Republic, honoring the achievements of individuals and organizations that have contributed to intercultural dialogue, promoting diversity and social cohesion in line with Moldova's European aspirations. Trophies and certificates of appreciation were also awarded.

The gala opened with a choreographic performance titled "Unity in Diversity." Aliona Grossu, director of the Jewish community, and Elena Sîrbu, president of the Roma women's platform, were honored with trophies.

Awards were also presented for promoting European values in interethnic relations. Moldova 1 journalists Daria Rusu and Evelina Șvidcenco were honored for their coverage of intercultural dialogue.

"I believe that programs for ethnic groups are necessary. They help people of different ethnicities and cultures to understand each other better, to maintain peace and understanding," said Evelina Șvidcenco, a journalist at Moldova 1.

"These moments are an expression of our diversity, an invitation to celebrate our common heritage, as well as the identity and specific traditions of each community," declared the President of Moldova, Maia Sandu.

You can see all 33 award winners in 12 categories, as well as the highlights of the artistic programs presented by representatives of the ethnic communities of our country, only on Moldova 1 on December 24th, in the program "Our Common Home."
