Fines worth nine million lei, applied by the CNA for electoral bribery

Fines totaling nine million lei have been imposed by the National Anticorruption Center (CNA) for electoral bribery. These fines were levied against voters who accepted money in exchange for their votes during the presidential elections and the referendum. The sanctions were based on contravention processes prepared by the police.

The fines for this contravention range from 25,000 to 37,500 lei. CNA stated that individuals who report their actions voluntarily or assist in uncovering or preventing acts of electoral bribery may be released from contravention liability.

Under the legislation, "passive electoral bribery" occurs when a voter, either personally or through an intermediary, demands, accepts or receives goods, services, privileges, or benefits—whether directly or indirectly—that are not rightfully theirs. This is done to influence the exercise or non-exercise of electoral rights during elections.

CNA informs that it is still reviewing the reports received and will make decisions based on them.
