Rediscover childhood wonder with ‘The Nutcracker’ play
The Christmas atmosphere is rekindled at the Russian Dramatic Theater "Anton Chekhov" in Chișinău with the premiere of the magical and mysterious play, The Nutcracker, based on Ernst Hoffmann's story.
Written in 1814, the story has since captivated audiences of all ages, whether through Tchaikovsky's renowned ballet or the many stage adaptations performed worldwide.
While the technical crew set up the enchanting stage design, the actors in the makeup room transformed into their characters. The Stahlbaum family delights in exchanging gifts with one another. The protagonist, Marie, receives a remarkable gift—a nutcracker shaped like a soldier, which springs to life and sets off a magical adventure.
"The play teaches us to love, to cherish family values, to nurture relationships with our parents, and to love and remember our grandparents," remarked actress Ana Goreacica.
The timeless story is brought to life on stage under the direction of Sergiu Chiriac.
"I aim to revisit my own memories as I engage with this text. This is why I try to reconnect with myself and encourage the audience to recall everything enchanting, beautiful, warm, and reminiscent of a vanishing childhood," said Sergiu Chiriac.
"I can't remember a production of such scale. It's fascinating not only for children but also for adults, as we all carry a child within us," emphasized Iurie Andriușcenco.
Eagerly anticipating the premiere and the chance to perform on a professional theater stage are the dancers from the Gloria Flamenco group.
"Every performance in the theater is something special, something unique—a truly indescribable atmosphere created by the synergy between the audience and the actors."
"I eagerly await this premiere. I believe it will be a stunning production, perfectly capturing the spirit of the winter holidays."
The premiere of The Nutcracker offers the audience an opportunity to rediscover a world of childhood filled with fantasy, warmth, and freedom. The performance will take place at the Russian Dramatic Theater "Anton Chekhov" on December 7 and 8.
