Moldova farmers receive $40,000 in emergency farming support

Farmers in southern Moldova are set to benefit from modern farming equipment valued at $40,000, donated as part of the “Emergency Support for Producers Amid Socio-Economic, Climate, and Energy Crises” project.

This initiative aims to help farmers save time and reduce labor efforts, especially amid a nationwide shortage of agricultural workers. The donation includes 13 electric fence sets, three milking machines, and a milk cooling tank, which will be distributed to 17 sheep and goat breeders in the Cimișlia and Basarabeasca districts. These farmers were trained through field schools organized by the FAO. The electric fences allow for automated livestock management, eliminating the need for a shepherd, while milking machines facilitate efficient milk production. The cooling tank will help process milk into high-quality cheese.

Farmers express that these modern tools will be invaluable for their operations. Pavel Prisăcaru, a sheep breeder, highlighted the time and labor saved by using the electric fence. Igor Obadă, a goat breeder, pointed out that the milking machine would enable increased animal productivity. Vasile Bîlbă emphasized the usefulness of the fence in managing livestock without additional labor costs. Veteran goat breeder Sergiu Caproșu mentioned that the electric fence would allow him to better protect his herd and replace manual labor.

The project, funded by Switzerland and Austria and launched in 2022, also incorporates agricultural training through field schools. By providing modern equipment, it aims to enhance livestock farming efficiency and dairy quality, promoting sustainable agricultural development.
