Moldovan voters defied election cancellation
In Chisinau, a day after the Romanian Constitutional Court's decision to annul the presidential elections, several Moldovan citizens with Romanian citizenship arrived at polling stations to confirm the news.
Despite the cancellation, they expressed their determination to participate in the next election, regardless of the date.
At the Ialoveni House of Culture, one of the 59 polling stations, several people arrived to confirm the cancellation. One voter shared their frustration: "I came to vote. Didn't you know the elections were canceled? My neighbors told me, but I wanted to confirm it. I couldn't believe it. It's a correct decision, we should have the elections. Will you come to the second round? Definitely."
A woman who, along with her husband, came to vote at the Spiru Haret Lyceum in the capital, expressed her disappointment: "I saw the news online, but I couldn't believe it. It's wrong to cancel the elections. Every citizen has the right to vote. They're misleading people."
The Romanian Constitutional Court's decision was met with mixed reactions from Moldovans. Some saw it as a necessary step to prevent Russian influence, while others criticized it as undemocratic.
On Friday, voting for the second round of the presidential elections began in the diaspora. In Moldova, polling stations opened at 12:00 and closed around 18:00. 59 polling stations were opened across the country, including 16 in Chisinau.
