A man and a woman – detained with a bag of drugs worth 7.5 million lei at the Ukrainian border

A 55-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman were caught red-handed with a bag of drugs valued at 7.5 million lei while crossing the Ukrainian border in the Vulcănești region. According to the General Police Inspectorate (IGP), they had retrieved the bag of smuggled drugs from a forested area.

As part of the investigation, law enforcement officials are working to identify any accomplices, including individuals who may have placed the drugs in that hiding spot. Following searches of the taxi driver’s residence and the woman's apartment, authorities seized an additional 2 kg of mephedrone and PVP, as well as 2 kg of marijuana.

In all, about 13 kg of drugs have been removed from circulation. At the request of the Prosecutor's Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cases (PCCOCS), the defendants have been placed in preventive detention for 25 and 30 days, respectively.
