The toll of the devastating earthquakes in Turkey and Syria has reached more than 17 thousand dead, according to the authorities. Representatives of the agencies providing assistance to the two countries claim that the death toll is likely to rise, with many people still trapped under the rubble and unfavorable weather conditions hampering rescue operations, reports CNN.

The head of the first team of Romanian rescuers, Bogdan Văluțoiu, told DIGI24 that at this time, several European countries are installing field hospitals in the localities affected by the earthquake, hospitals of the highest level that perform surgical interventions.
In Turkey, the death toll has risen to more than 14,000, according to the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Agency.
In Syria, more than 3,000 people have already been registered, the state media in Damascus announced.
