Deputies did not receive awards in 2024 and pay rise for the December 12 session
The deputies of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova did not receive any awards or salary increases during 2024. This clarification was made by the legislative institution in response to misinformation spread on digital platforms and social networks, which it describes as "fake and manipulative."
The Parliament explained that some of this misleading information stemmed from data compromised during a cyber attack on its servers in October. Additionally, some claims were distorted and taken out of context, being excerpted from various reports submitted by the Parliament's Secretariat.
"The Parliament of the Republic of Moldova announces that, in recent days, it has been subjected to coordinated disinformation attacks and efforts to discredit it. The aim of disseminating false information is to create public concern and undermine trust in state institutions," reads the statement from Parliament.
The institution also reaffirmed that social guarantees for deputies, as outlined in the Law on the Status of Deputies in Parliament, apply equally to all elected officials, regardless of their political affiliation. This includes their monthly salary, compensatory payments, and allowances for rent or transportation.
In light of these circumstances, the Legislative urges citizens to seek information only from credible sources to avoid falling victim to disinformation campaigns.
