Experts: EU countries and the United States will help us overcome the energy crisis
January will be a critical test for Romania in its role as a guarantor of energy security for the Republic of Moldova, an objective outlined in the 2025-2035 energy strategy, according to Eugenia Gusilov, director of the Romania Energy Center, during the show "IN CONTEXT." Watchdog expert Eugen Muravschi mentioned on Moldova 1 TV that while challenges and costs lie ahead, strategic partners such as European countries and the United States will provide support in overcoming the energy crisis.
"We are witnessing a final effort to see if transit through the Ukrainian corridor can still be preserved. Essentially, we are at the end of a chapter concerning the transit of Ukrainian gas and commercial relations between Russia and Europe. This longstanding relationship is coming to an end. The Russian side is playing political games, trying to keep us uncertain until the last moment to extract concessions. Member countries of the European Union that still rely on Russian gas have signed alternative contracts. Currently, only Slovakia and the transnistrian region face definite repercussions," Gusilov said.
She emphasized that energy resources will not be available at preferential rates but at market prices, and price increases should be expected. “Like any crisis, this situation presents an opportunity to evaluate how well Romania can fulfill its responsibility outlined in the Energy Strategy 2025-2035: supplying the Republic of Moldova with electricity and gas under any circumstances. This will be our first significant test. This week, we will attempt to maximize interconnection capacity to facilitate the export of electricity from Romania to Moldova,” said the energy expert .
Eugen Muravschi said that it raises suspicion that Russia has not made monthly capacity reservations on the Trans-Balkan corridor and will not subsidize the separatist regime in Tiraspol, which needs to find resources to meet its gas expenses. "Gazprom has not taken any steps to reserve gas delivery capacity to the Transnistrian region. It could be possible that some traders are making reservations under a false flag on behalf of Gazprom. We will come out of this crisis stronger, and we will certainly require the assistance of external partners. European nations and the United States have supported us in difficult times and are interested in stability and democracy in the Republic of Moldova. With their help, we will overcome this crisis. There will undoubtedly be costs borne by both the national budget and all citizens, including those on the right bank."
