Moldova combats misinformation, reaffirms peaceful conflict resolution

The Republic of Moldova has dismissed recent social media claims alleging preparations for military action in the Transnistrian region, labeling them as dangerous disinformation originating from Moscow.

Presidential advisor Adrian Băluțel described these narratives as deliberate attempts to incite panic and distrust within society. Moldova's Bureau for Reintegration Policies reiterated the government’s unwavering stance: the Transnistrian conflict must be resolved exclusively through peaceful negotiations, avoiding destabilization in the country or region.

Officials emphasized that the primary challenges in the Transnistrian region stem from Gazprom’s refusal to honor contractual obligations, not actions by Moldova or Ukraine. They stressed the need for collaborative solutions to address the looming energy crisis, which threatens citizens on both sides of the Nistru River.

Moldova continues to demand the unconditional withdrawal of Russian troops stationed in the region, citing sovereignty concerns. President Maia Sandu has called for the replacement of Russia’s peacekeeping mission with a civilian, internationally mandated initiative under OSCE and UN auspices.
