Moldova activates crisis unit to tackle emergency challenges
A Crisis Response Unit will be activated within the Government starting on December 26 to ensure effective management of any emergency situation.
Prime Minister Dorin Recean announced this following a joint meeting with ministers, agency heads, public institutions, energy companies, and representatives of subordinate agencies.
“Maintaining public order, ensuring traffic safety, supporting citizens returning home from the diaspora, and assisting those in need are just some of the institutions’ responsibilities during this period. We are ready for any possible scenario, and attempts to destabilize our country will not succeed,” the Prime Minister stated.
As of December 16, a state of emergency has been declared throughout the Republic of Moldova for 60 days. The country faces the risk of an energy crisis if the Russian company Gazprom halts natural gas deliveries to the Transnistrian region.
Authorities warn that such a situation could trigger a humanitarian crisis on the left bank of the Dniester River, where approximately 300,000 people reside. Additionally, the energy crisis could result in power outages and rising prices on the right bank of the Dniester, the authorities added.
Prime Minister Dorin Recean also emphasized during today’s Government meeting that institutions will be instructed to optimize energy savings to the fullest.
