Two Russian missiles launched against the energy system in Ukraine crossed the airspace of the Republic of Moldova
Two missiles launched by the Russian army against the energy infrastructure in Ukraine flew over the airspace of the Republic of Moldova. The information was confirmed by the Border Police and representatives of the Government. One of the missiles was observed by a patrol in the Iampol-Cosăuți direction. Later, another one allegedly crossed the airspace of the Republic of Moldova in the Otaci-Moghilev Podolsk area and exited through the border with Romania in the Dorohoi-Herța area. The National Army's airspace monitoring system did not detect the overflight of our country's airspace by any missiles or drones, informs the Ministry of Defense.
Also, no disturbances were reported in the energy system of the Republic of Moldova, which is connected to the one in Ukraine, informs the Border Police.
Moldelectrica also announces that the transmission and distribution system of our country is operating in a stable mode: "No disconnections caused by the missile attack on Ukraine have been recorded."
In this regard, to support the maintenance of operational stability and network efficiency, the authorities ask consumers to optimize the use of electricity during peak hours: 09:00 – 11:00 and 17:00 – 19:00.
The Ministry of Defense in Bucharest also denied, on Wednesday morning, the crossing of Romanian airspace by a Russian missile targeting the Ukrainian region of Chernivtsi, as claimed by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
This was not confirmed by the air surveillance systems of Romania and NATO countries, which supplement the monitoring in Romania's area of responsibility.
Russia has been attacking Ukraine’s energy system and cities in its eastern region with cruise and ballistic missiles. At least six people were injured in a missile attack on the city of Kharkiv, regional governor Oleg Syniehubov said, Reuters reports.
Dnipropetrovsk Governor Sergiu Lisak said on Telegram on Wednesday morning that the Russian military was massively attacking the Dnipro region, trying to destroy the region’s energy system.
Ukrainian Energy Minister German Galushchenko said on Facebook that Russia was “massively attacking the energy sector” and that the transmission system operator had imposed restrictions on electricity supplies to minimize the impact.
Russia has stepped up its attacks on Ukraine’s energy sector since the spring of 2024, damaging almost half of its generation capacity and causing power outages lasting several hours across the country.
