Moldova advances EU accession with Poland’s key support

The Republic of Moldova's priorities for advancing its European Union accession process, including initiating negotiations on specific chapters, were discussed by President Maia Sandu during a phone call with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, ahead of Poland's assumption of the EU Council Presidency.

According to the Presidency, the discussions also addressed the removal of quotas on certain agricultural exports and the full elimination of roaming charges between the Republic of Moldova and the EU.

"Joining the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) remains a key objective for the Republic of Moldova, streamlining financial transactions and strengthening the business environment," the Presidency noted.

These measures will deliver tangible benefits to citizens by enhancing economic opportunities, reducing transfer costs, and fostering closer integration with the European economic market. Poland continues to be a trusted partner for Moldova in its European aspirations and efforts to bolster regional stability.

The two leaders also addressed bilateral relations, economic cooperation, Poland's support for Moldova's development, and regional security issues.

Notably, on January 1, 2025, Poland will take over the rotating Presidency of the European Council from Hungary.
