Vinicius Junior wins best footballer of 2024 at Globe Soccer Awards
Vinicius Junior was named the world’s best footballer of 2024 and received the award at the Globe Soccer Awards ceremony in Dubai, UAE.
The Real Madrid star and Brazil national team player surpassed other contenders, including Rodri, Jude Bellingham, and Mohamed Salah, in a poll involving fans, journalists, coaches, player agents, and former players.
"I want to thank my teammates, Flamengo, where I began my football career, the Brazil national team for the numerous opportunities they’ve given me, and, of course, Real Madrid for a fantastic year," Vinicius said.
Vinicius Junior was also recognized as the best forward of 2024. Cristiano Ronaldo was awarded the trophy for being the best all-time goal scorer and the best player in the Middle East. The Portuguese player seized the opportunity to express his opinion on this year’s Ballon d'Or.
“Vinicius deserved the Ballon d'Or. The decision wasn’t right, I’m saying it here, in front of everyone. Rodri deserved it too, but they should have awarded it to Vinicius, as he won the Champions League and scored in the final. Other details don’t matter to me,” said Cristiano Ronaldo.
The best young player of the year was Lamine Yamal, star of FC Barcelona and the Spanish national team. The title of best coach went to Carlo Ancelotti of Real Madrid, while the female footballer of the year was Aitana Bonmati, also from FC Barcelona and the Spain national team.
