Dorin Recean, appointed by President Maia Sandu as a candidate for the position of Prime Minister, is presidential adviser on security issues and secretary general of the Supreme Security Council, starting on February 7, 2022.
Dorin Recean was born on March 17, 1974, in Dondușeni. In 1996, he graduated from the Academy of Economic Studies of the Republic of Moldova, with a degree in law and international business management, after which, in 2000, he also obtained a master's degree in business administration, at the Belgian branch of the Newport International University. Then, between 2000 and 2012, Dorin Recean was a lecturer at the Newport International University, the branch in Chisinau, but also at the Academy of Economic Sciences. In 2010, he was appointed as Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Technology, being responsible for the implementation of biometric passports. In July 2012, he was appointed Minister of the Interior in the Government led by Vlad Filat, and after its fall, he remains Minister of the Interior in the Government led by Iurie Leancă. After the November 2014 elections, Dorin Recean retired from politics and opened his own business. He returns in February 2022, when he was appointed by Maia Sandu as presidential advisor on security issues and general secretary of the Supreme Security Council of the Republic of Moldova. Previously, his name was speculated several times as a possible candidate for the position of Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova.
