According to the latest figures, 15 people have died, and at least 35 others have been injured after a vehicle crashed into a crowd on Bourbon Street in the French Quarter of New Orleans, according to BBC.

Authorities consider the incident intentional, and the FBI is treating it as an act of terrorism. A flag of the Islamic State (banned in several countries) was found in the attacker’s vehicle, which was reportedly rented. The driver, identified as 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a U.S. citizen from Texas and a former member of the armed forces, is reported to have acted with possible accomplices, according to authorities.

In addition to the victims in the crowd, two police officers were injured during the response. Two improvised explosive devices were also found and safely detonated nearby.

The incident took place at 3 a.m. on the iconic Bourbon Street, a lively area filled with restaurants, bars, and clubs, known as a symbol of New Orleans' nightlife.

"A horrific act of violence took place this morning on Bourbon Street. I urge everyone in the area to avoid it until further notice," said Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry.

As a result of the attack, the traditional college football game, the Sugar Bowl, scheduled for January 1, has been delayed by one day. Over 68,000 spectators had been expected at the event.
