Higher bills for electricity and heat. ANRE's decisions were published in the Official Gazette
The new tariffs approved by the National Energy Regulatory Agency (ANRE) have entered into force. The regulator's decisions were published on Friday, January 10, in the Official Gazette.
Premier Energy consumers will now pay 4.1 lei/kWh, 75% more than the previous tariff, while FEE Nord consumers will pay 4.68 lei/kWh, an increase of about 64%. The new tariffs are lower than those initially requested by suppliers, but significantly higher than those previously applied.
Increases in thermal energy
Residents of several regions of the Republic of Moldova will also experience increases in thermal energy:
In Chisinau, the tariff for thermal energy supplied by Termoelectrica increased from 1,824 lei to 2,510 lei/Gcal. In Balti, CET-Nord consumers will pay 2126 lei/Gcal, an increase of 307 lei. In Comrat, the price reached 3222 lei/Gcal, by 340 lei more.
Context and compensations
The electricity increases were determined by the cessation of electricity supply from the Cuciurgan Power Plant and the need to diversify supply sources. According to Energocom, in January 2025, the Republic of Moldova will cover consumption from local and external sources, including imports from Romania and green energy.
Thermal energy has become more expensive in the context of the increase in natural gas tariffs. Starting with December 1, consumers pay 16.74 lei, 3.62 lei more than in November.
Following the increase in tariffs, the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection announced that the Government will provide additional compensation for electricity.
We remind you that, in December 2022, Moldovans paid the highest tariffs in history, of 5.91 lei/kWh for Premier Energy and 5.6 lei/kWh for FEE Nord.
