UN special session one year after Russian invasion of Ukraine

The UN General Assembly is due to meet on 22 February in New York for a special session to mark the one-year anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The event, which will be attended by many ministers from different countries, will last two days, diplomatic sources say.

In the run-up to the meeting, Kiev is preparing a draft resolution to be voted on 23 February, which it hopes will send a message of support from the international community.

The Ukrainian government was originally planning to present a text supporting a peace plan promoted by President Volodimir Zelenski, an initiative already rejected by Moscow, which calls for the withdrawal of Russian troops and bringing to justice those responsible for the war in Ukraine, reports say.
