EU grants €148 million in humanitarian aid to the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine
The European Union has announced a humanitarian aid package totaling €148 million for the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine. The Republic of Moldova will receive €8 million to support Ukrainian refugees and local host communities. This funding will provide direct financial assistance, access to essential services, and psychosocial support.
Additionally, the EU will allocate €140 million to aid the population affected by the war in Ukraine. This was announced by European Commissioner for Crisis Management, Hadja Lahbib, during her visit to Ukraine. According to Lahbib, the funds are intended to assist Ukrainians with food, shelter, drinking water, and heating.
“Our new €148 million in humanitarian support demonstrates our commitment to stand by the Ukrainian people during this challenging time. We will continue to do everything in our power to assist those affected by this crisis, in collaboration with our partners and the Ukrainian authorities,” said Hadja Lahbib.
Since the onset of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the EU has committed over €1.1 billion in humanitarian aid, including the amount announced recently. Of this total, €1.09 billion has been allocated to Ukraine, while €84 million has been designated for refugees in the Republic of Moldova.
