Moldovagaz is not notified about resumption of gas supplies to the transnistrian region
Moldovagaz, the sole supplier of natural gas to the Transnistrian region, has not been officially notified about the resumption of gas supplies from the Russian Federation. The statement was made by the company's interim head, Vadim Ceban, in the context of the announcement made by the alleged leader in Tiraspol, Vadim Krasnoselski, regarding the resumption of gas supplies.
"Moldovagaz is not informed about this in any way. In the Transnistrian region, apart from Moldovagaz, no one can supply gas. I was not informed by Gazprom on this subject. If there is anything, we will announce it later, but now we do not have information," said Vadim Ceban.
After refusing the aid offered by the authorities in Chisinau, the alleged leader of the Transnistrian region, Vadim Krasnoselski, recently announced that natural gas supplies from Russia to the region will soon resume. The statements were made after he visited Moscow, where he met with officials from the Russian Ministry of Energy.
Details about the transportation route and who will cover the transit costs are not yet known.
“The gas that will be delivered is enough to ensure the operation of all thermal power plants, electricity production and the activity of enterprises. It is humanitarian gas,” Krasnoselski said.
In this regard, the head of Moldovagaz explained that any “humanitarian aid” for the Transnistrian region, if it existed, should be coordinated at the governmental level and with the involvement of the national authorities of the Republic of Moldova. “Humanitarian aid, that is what is being considered, must be done at the level of governments in general. So, without the national authorities, they cannot receive humanitarian aid, because (the region) is not recognized,” Ceban explained.
Dorin Recean: “Everything is predictable”
The Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, Dorin Recean, criticized the situation and Russia’s strategy, and stated that the recent actions are part of a predictable strategy of escalation.
“Everything was predictable, including this statement. Russia created a problem, sacrificed and kept the citizens of the Republic of Moldova on the left bank of the Nistru River in the dark. And now it presents itself as the savior of the situation. Their objective is to create a crisis, to pit us against the citizens on the left bank of the Nistru River and to escalate the situation, including on the right bank, with the ultimate goal of increasing their military capacity on the left bank of the Nistru River for a possible aggression against Ukraine,” said Recean.
The situation in the Transnistrian region
The Russian concern Gazprom has stopped natural gas supplies to the Transnistrian region since January 1, as a result, the situation has generated massive disconnections from gas, hot water and thermal energy in most localities.
Experts suggest that the current energy and social crisis on the left bank of the Nistru was artificially created by the Russian Federation, as part of a broader strategy to destabilize the Republic of Moldova before this year's parliamentary elections. This situation could be used to gain political capital, with the opposition having the opportunity to present itself as "saviors" to the electorate.
