The Asian champions responded through Luciano Vietto, who also scored twice, and Moussa Marega. Real Madrid have also triumphed in 2014, 2016, 2017 and 2018. Los Blancos have also won three Intercontinental Cups, the precursor to the Club World Cup, and the trophy won in Morocco was the 100th in Madrid's trophy cabinet.

"It's what we had hoped to do. We had a lot of quality in attack with Vinicius, Benzema and Valverde. We demonstrated mobility and, of course, quality in attack. I'm very happy." Real coach Carlo Ancelotti commented after the game.

In the semi-final, Flamengo Rio de Janeiro, winners of the Copa Libertadores, beat African runners-up Al-Ahly Cairo 4-2. As of 2025, the number of teams in the Club World Cup will increase to 32.
