Moldova’s electricity purchases: 15% price increase in 2025
From January 1 to 20, 2025, Energocom acquired approximately 280,000 MWh of electricity at an average weighted price of about €126.75/MWh.
This price is roughly 15% higher than the first 10 days of the year. The purchases include electricity procured both domestically as a central supplier and from imports, based on bilateral contracts and transactions conducted on Romania’s OPCOM market.
Out of the total electricity purchased, around 30% was produced by the district heating plants in Chișinău and Bălți, while imports made up about 60% of the country’s energy needs. The remaining 10% was sourced from renewable sources, including wind farms, solar power parks, and biogas plants.
The electricity sale price, set by the National Energy Regulatory Agency (ANRE), is about €145/MWh.
It is important to note that after Gazprom halted gas deliveries to the Transnistrian region, MGRES no longer supplies electricity to the right bank of the Dniester River. Moldova meets its energy needs through domestic production, renewable sources, and imports, which account for about 60% of total consumption.
