Fire at Kartalkaya ski resort leaves 10 dead and 32 injured

Ten people have died and 32 others have been injured in a devastating fire at a hotel in the Kartalkaya ski resort, located in the Bolu province of Turkey, according to local authorities.

The fire broke out on the morning of January 21, on the fourth floor of the 11-story hotel, where 234 people were staying. Emergency teams, including 30 fire trucks and 28 ambulances, were sent to the scene from Bolu and neighboring provinces.

A total of 85 vehicles and 231 personnel were involved in firefighting and rescue operations, with reinforcements continuing to arrive at the scene.

The governor of Bolu, Abdulaziz Aydın, stated that the exact cause of the fire is under investigation.

"Preliminary data indicate that six Turkish citizens have lost their lives, and another 31 have been injured. Firefighting efforts are ongoing, and the injured are being treated at hospitals in the province," the governor’s office announced before the death toll was updated to 10.

The Kartalkaya ski resort, located in the Köroğlu Mountains, is a popular winter destination, about 38 kilometers from Bolu and 270 kilometers from Istanbul. The investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
