"Here in Auckland, listen to advice from local and regional specialist services about what to do. Make sure you are prepared," said Chris Hipkins, New Zealand's Prime Minister.

Northern New Zealand remains under a high cyclone warning. People are terrified. Authorities are urging them to review evacuation plans and clear drains.

"The water is knee-deep. You never know what can happen in the next couple of days."

"We heard a noise behind us, the banks have broken. It was very close to us," people say.

"Some people in Northland already know that their homes are flooded periodically. Some of them have probably already left their homes subject to danger. Those who know they are under threat are being asked to leave their homes," said Graeme Macdonald, the emergency management group.

Due to the weather, schools in Auckland are not working and railways have been closed. According to experts, New Zealand is hit by a cyclone at least once a year.
